Position Summary:
The School Safety Director (SSD) is the most senior operational leader within the school safety department, overseeing daily safety and emergency preparedness functions across multiple campuses. Based in the Command Center, the SSD is responsible for strategic direction, supervisory accountability, and the operational success of all Valor Protection school safety personnel. The SSD ensures a cohesive, responsive, and student-focused safety presence that supports both academic priorities and community expectations. This role plays a critical part in cultivating a safety culture rooted in proactive leadership, incident readiness, and strong stakeholder partnership.

The SSD ensures a cohesive, responsive, and student-focused safety presence that supports both academic priorities and community expectations. This role plays a critical part in cultivating a safety culture rooted in proactive leadership, incident readiness, and strong stakeholder partnership.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Oversight: Provide direct, high-level supervision to Safety Managers, Supervisors, and Officers across campuses. Set department-wide safety objectives, standards, and performance goals. Drive continual improvement through strategic analysis and leadership alignment.
- Multi-Campus Coordination: Oversee and unify safety operations across all assigned school sites. Ensure protocol consistency, officer accountability, and standardized documentation across the district.
- Policy Development & Compliance: Lead the creation and implementation of operational safety policies, post orders, and school-site SOPs. Monitor for compliance with state laws, district policies, and best practices for educational safety.
- Emergency Preparedness & Incident Response: Coordinate all emergency drills, crisis planning, and interagency response strategies. Serve as the lead Command Center authority during live incidents, managing real-time dispatch and site coordination. Lead post-incident debriefings and ensure after-action items are resolved.
- Talent Management & Development: Recruit, hire, and train Safety Supervisors and Officers in alignment with Valor Protection standards. Support professional development through coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
- Data-Driven Performance Management: Establish and review benchmarks for incident response, report completion, and officer performance. Analyze trends to identify risks and optimize staffing and operations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the key liaison to school administrators, district leaders, and community safety partners. Represent Valor Protection in strategic meetings and collaborative planning efforts.
- Event & Crisis Leadership: Develop and execute complex safety plans for school-wide events such as graduations, games, and assemblies. Conduct pre-event walkthroughs and provide real-time supervision during high-attendance functions.
- Operational Resiliency: Anticipate and respond to staffing shortages, emergencies, or logistical challenges. Implement contingency strategies to ensure uninterrupted safety coverage across all schools.
- Compensation: $30 - $33 per hour
- High school diploma or GED (required); Bachelor’s degree in Public Safety, Criminal Justice, Organizational Leadership, Education Administration, or related field (strongly preferred)
- Valid Security Supervisor certification/licensure per state regulation
- Minimum 5 years of progressive safety/security experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role
- Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid
- Strong background in multi-site supervision and operational command
- Proficient in safety management software, scheduling tools, and performance metrics
- Deep knowledge of FERPA, student rights, and trauma-informed practices
